Some last minute notes from Mr. E.
Water: is really important. I am going to be getting a water bottle in the Toronto airport and I will be filling it daily out of the taps from our hotel rooms and the occasional artesian well that I find along the way.  I will not be buying water at all if I can help it. ... I like free.
Luggage Requirements – Students have received their uniform, tour bag, pins (etc) on the 30th.  Each student will be required to sew a canadian flag on their bag that goes under the plane.  Sewing instructions and a flag have been included with their uniform.  To clarify- The flag is to be sewn on the top of the bag - on the flap in the middle above your name.
Students are not permitted to bring any other luggage for under the plane other than the bag supplied for them on the 30th.  As for carry on, students are permitted two pieces.  Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, and trumpets are a part of your carry-on.
Just a heads up, students are going to get assigned their second item today for under the plane. This is a huge operation and has taken us days to put together. It is their responsibility to know what they have and where it goes (or who it goes to) each time we perform. This will be the big test at the concert on the 4th.
The format for the concert on the 4th will be 20 minutes concert band, 20 minutes choir and 20 minutes funk band. All students and chaperones are to be in full uniform and we highly suggest sunscreen, shades and a hat. Students are to be at the school no later than 12:00. The concert will finish at 3:30. Each student will be required to take home their extra piece for under the plane at this time. The concert will take place in the staff parking lot at the school.  The audience will be in the heat, so please bring a camping chair and a very LARGE umbrella... it is predicted to be +30˚C.
Please make sure you are aware of your child’s departure time for the 6th.  Students should be at the airport no later than 1:30 (1 hour and 30 minutes) before their scheduled departure times as we have to do group check in and it takes quite some time.  Mr. Finkbeiner, Ms. Russell and Mr. Edwards will be at the desk for each student as they check in along with all of the chaperones on each flight.
Students and chaperones are to arrive a the airport in uniform - red t-shirt and jacket.  We recommend long pants on the plane, but it is not required.  Please make sure you are familiar with the items you are carrying, so that you can answer questions about them to security.
Please review the last post - Final meting notes for such things as a detailed list for packing and flight times.
If you have any questions before our departure, please contact us at Westwood 888-7650 ext 2233 (Edwards) ext 2244 (Russell)  or email - gedwards@sjsd.net or arussell@sjsd.net
